Hello,

Is there a solution for auto placing the components?

I've found autoplace_v3.ulp in this webpage:
http://www.cadsoft.de/cgi-bin/download.pl?page=/home/cadsoft/html_public/download.htm.en&dir=eagle/userfiles/ulp

this autoplace places the components in the layout based on the schematics,
but I didn't manage to make it work. I did as follows:
- I did my schematic
- I clicked on "board"
(a new layout appears, with all the components placed by default)
- From the "Board" window, I select Menu->File->Run: autoplace_v3.ulp

The software says: "Run: autoplace_v3.ulp: finished",
but I don't see any change in the layout; no component have been moved.
I've tried several things without luck (such as putting everything in the
first quadran). currently there board size limitation should not be the
problem, the schematic is quite small.

How to make autoplace_v3.ulp work?
Also, is there any other solution for autoplace?

Best regards,
David

Not even with the professional (licensed) version?

Not really.

I know this autoplace ULP exists. However, autoplacing is a very
complicated problem that hasn't really been solved. I seriously doubt that
this ULP does anything useful for more than toy problems. So far I have
not seen auto placing software that does anything but make a mess for
useful size problems (100s of components).

For me the autoplace.ulp does a good job.
Its very helpful to have a pre sort of all parts.
But in the last project I couldn't use the ulp any-more.
There where a lot of components which had fixed positions, because of
mechanical issues.
The autoplace.ulp hangs on this components.
Is it possible to sort them out?

Viele Grüße, Oliver Schumann.

Hi David
autoplace_v3.ulp needs to be run from the schematic
Unfortunately it was not coded to show this need if run in the board.

Have fun

Try my ULPs:

They provide "unpiling".
